Mrs. Belinda Piercy, Principal of Woodlawn Learning Center
School Year 2012-2013
Greetings and welcome to Woodlawn Learning Center. We are very pleased to have you and your family at the center. This will be a very exciting year at our school.
At Woodlawn Learning Center, we are committed to establishing a supportive learning environment for children, parents and staff in which the processes of enhancing awareness, refining skills and increasing understanding are valued and promoted. Field trips and special activities are provided monthly to increase student's knowledge and awareness of the world beyond the walls of the classroom.
Patterns and expectations of success for the child are established to create a climate of confidence for present and future learning and development. Our preschool program is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our Core Values... Include embracing a comprehensive vision of health for children, families and staff which assures that basic health needs are met, encourages practices that prevent future illnesses and injuries and injuries, and promotes positive, culturally relevant health behaviors that enhance life-long well being.
We understand and respect the importance of all aspects of an individual's development, including social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth fostering relationships with the larger community. Our Strategy... To build development and learning foundations that will help children succeed in school since such foundations are critical to school readiness and future educational achievement. To encourage individual development and expose children to a variety of diverse learning experiences.
We Believe... Parents are a child's first "teacher" and the most important influence throughout life. Services must be future oriented, offering skills, knowledge, and intervention that can be expanded by the family and child after leaving Woodlawn.
